Hey again! For this week, we were supposed to create a corpus based language awareness task and we created a teaching material with my partner Gülenay (https://myeducationalpurposes.tumblr.com/). Gülenay and I tried to make our students comprehend the use of “between and among”. It is a complicated subject for many students, but with the help of corpus use, we hope that our students will be able to grasp it easily.
Data-driven learning is an approach in which learners investigate language data. Besides, corpus is gathering linguistic data, it can be compiled as written texts or as a transcription of recorded speech. Language awareness tasks are the activities that can be done as class to help students increase their own language cognizance.
In the work, we asked our students to search on skell and look at examples so that they comprehend the difference between the words among and between easily. We asked them to fill in the gaps so that they can practice what they learned and write their own sentences. For the design of the material, we used canva because it is easy to use and has a lot of features. With the help of this task, we understood how corpus works and how we can integrate it into our future classes.
